UCP - The Story
It’s all Zelda’s fault, The Ocarina of Time to be exact, back in the late 90’s George had his beloved N64 and a copy of the aforementioned. The game took over, and he played it through the lead up to Christmas. Whilst chatting with his younger cousin OG Tom, George mentioned his latest gaming passion, explaining the details of the game and it blew OG Tom’s socks off, he must of ran home to desperately ask his Mumsie for it because when George visited his nans on Christmas day there was OG Tom, sat in the corner struggling to get through Hyrule Castle’s stealth mission. George started to give him advice and guide him through the mission boosting OG Toms confidence in the game and his overall passion for gaming, that sharing of knowledge and passing on gaming experience was the catalyst to their future relationship and lead to George calling up OG Tom and together they’d discuss gaming for hours.
Forward to darker days in 2019 when our George suffered from a breakdown, as part of the healing process he used gaming and podcasts as an escape, and as he slowly improved his mental health, he had an overwhelming feeling of giving back to the gaming and podcast communities that had helped him through his darkest days. He wanted to be there for people, having a bad day, a rough day at work, or people going through stuff and just needing that escape, he wanted to be that shoe waiting for them to carry them to a brighter day.
George had a realization on a gaming conversation with OG Tom, that they were kind of already doing a podcast, just for themselves, they just weren’t broadcasting it. ‘Let’s share it with everyone.’ Some of the questions they asked each other are still featured today, over 300 episodes later, which is why we ask, what have you been playing? And what do you hope to play?
